Kumawood Actress Christiana Awuni Urges Ghanaians to Uproot NPP Like Cassava

Renowned Kumawood actress Christiana Awuni has issued a stirring call to the people of Ghana, urging them to vote against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the forthcoming 2024 elections. Awuni made her passionate plea during the launch of the “Unique Stars for NDC and John Dramani Mahama” campaign on June 23, 2024, in Accra.

In her address, Awuni likened the potential removal of President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP from power to the act of uprooting a cassava plant, a vivid metaphor intended to resonate with the everyday experiences of ordinary Ghanaians.

"The NPP has caused great suffering to our nation," Awuni declared. "They have not delivered on their commitments, leading to economic difficulties for the people of Ghana. It's time for a change, and that change is John Dramani Mahama."

The actress's remarks underscore a growing sentiment among some Ghanaians who feel disillusioned by the current administration's performance. She emphasized the importance of steering the country onto a new path under the leadership of Mahama, the former president and candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Awuni's speech was peppered with strong statements reflecting the frustration felt by many. "If a free port is to be established due to financial difficulties, I believe no one will remain in the country," she warned, alluding to the potential mass exodus if the current economic policies persist. "We have come to the decision that we cannot continue with this foolishness, so we are bringing back JM for a second term. He has not chosen himself but is serving selflessly."

Her rallying cry was echoed by Big Akwes, the president of the "Unique Stars" group, who reaffirmed his support for John Mahama at the campaign's launch. He criticized the NPP government for its management of national affairs, accusing it of operating as a "family and friends" administration that fails to safeguard public funds.

The launch of the “Unique Stars for NDC and John Dramani Mahama” campaign is seen as a significant move in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. It signifies a concerted effort by prominent figures in Ghana's entertainment industry to galvanize support for the NDC and push for a change in leadership.

As the election approaches, the words of Christiana Awuni and her fellow campaigners will likely continue to reverberate through the political landscape of Ghana, amplifying calls for a shift in governance and a fresh start under Mahama's leadership. Whether these efforts will translate into electoral success remains to be seen, but the message is clear: many Ghanaians are ready for a new direction.
